Super Bowl 50 prop bets: Will Peyton Manning retire? How often will Cam Newton smile?
So you want to make some money wagering on Super Bowl 50? No problem.
The Carolina Panthers are getting 10-21 odds to win Super Bowl 50. The Denver Broncos’ odds are 7-4. The over-under for the final score is 45.5.
Not exactly what you’re looking for? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Here’s a list of some of the more interesting prop bets out there from various gambling sites:
Coin toss
Choosing heads will get you -115 odds. So will betting on tails. Basically you have a 50-50 chance on this one, which makes sense since it’s a coin toss.
MVP
Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has the best odds (8-11). With 35 passing touchdowns and 10 more on the ground this season, chances are he will have a pretty big impact on the game. Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning was the MVP of Super Bowl XLI, but that was nine years ago. His odds of getting the honor this time are 4-1.
Cam Newton
Lots more money to be made (or lost) on the over-unders here: amount of time shown on TV smiling, 3:15; jump celebrations, 4.0; touchdowns, 2.5; passing yards, 245.5; rushing yards, 40.5; number of towels on his body at once, 2.5.
Peyton Manning
Where to begin? Number of times he shouts “Omaha,†7.5; number of overthrows, 2.5; odds he announces his retirement before the game, 12-1; odds he announces his retirement during the post-game news conference, 2-1; odds that he is part of next season’s Super Bowl broadcast, 7-1; odds he records a rap album with brother Eli, 120-1.
Total number of penalties
Over-under: 12.5
A kicker misses an extra point
This is much more likely to happen than in the past now that the NFL has moved the ball back to the 15-yard line this season. Carolina’s Graham Gano missed three of his 59 attempts this season and has 19-1 odds of doing it again during the Super Bowl. Denver’s Brandon McManus has made 35 of 36 attempts, which gets him 25-1 odds for missing one during the big game.
Panthers score first on a Broncos safety
You get +5,000 odds on this one. Sounds pretty unlikely, but don’t forget Manning and the Broncos gave up a safety to the Seattle Seahawks just seconds into the game in Super Bowl XLVIII.
John Fox
The over-under on the number of times John Fox will be mentioned during the CBS broadcast is 1. Sounds like a steal to me — Fox has coached both of these teams in previous Super Bowls. TV announcers love that kind of thing.
