Watch NFL Hall of Famers push for gun control legislation [Video]
What do former NFL running backs LaDainian Tomlinson, Emmitt Smith and Marshall Faulk have in common with receiver Michael Irvin and cornerback Deion Sanders?
Yes, four are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and Tomlinson is a lock to be enshrined when eligible.
All of them also are advocating for better gun control laws in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting and random gun violence across the nation. Each appears in a public service announcement for DemandAPlan.org, a campaign sponsored by Mayors Against Illegal Guns.
A recurring theme in the video, which is shot in black and white, is the question, “How many more?†The players take turns saying “enough†and “demand a plan, right now.â€
Boston Mayor Thomas Menino appreciates the athletes’ efforts in taking a stand against gun violence.
“We are grateful that these sports heroes -- who are also fathers, brothers and uncles -- are choosing to speak out,†Menino said in a statement. “We need every voice to be heard to keep the pressure on Congress to pass legislation that will save American lives and make our neighborhoods safer.â€
