Watch Texans’ Matt Schaub lose part of his ear on illegal hit
Matt Schaub is just fine. Don’t worry about the Houston Texans quarterback, who lost his helmet and had to miss a play following a brutal -- and illegal -- hit by Denver Broncos defender Joe Mays (see video below).
“I felt fine,” Schaub said. “I just lost a piece of my ear. I was bleeding and my helmet came off. So I had to come out for a play, but I was fine.”
Wait ... what?!
Is it just me or does Schaub seem a little nonchalant for a guy who just lost a piece of his ear?
Well, technically, it’s a piece of his ear lobe. See how one side kind of looks like Pac-Man in the photo above?
Yeah, most ear lobes don’t look that way -- and Schaub’s didn’t until Mays decided to do a little reconstructive surgery with his helmet, the second straight illegal hit Schaub took in the third quarter of the Texans’ 31-25 victory.
Of course, football players are tough, but I don’t know too many people who would miss just one play after losing a body part!
About 10 minutes later, Schaub connected with tight end Owen Daniels for a 14-yard touchdown pass, his fourth of the day. What a showoff!
With the win, the Texans improve to 3-0 for the first time in franchise history and already have a two-game lead in the AFC South. They also are the only undefeated team in the AFC.
See, that’s what’s really important on Sunday afternoons. Small chunks of one’s ear lobe? Who cares. Credit to Schaub for keeping everything in perspective.
