After one match, Sharapova splits with Jimmy Connors as coach
After only 34 days and one upset loss to American Sloane Stephens in Cincinnati, Maria Sharapova has fired Jimmy Connors as her coach.
Sharapova released a statement that said, “It’s not the right fit for this time in my career.†Sharapova said she will play the U.S. Open later this month without a coach.
Connors, who won eight major tournaments, also had a brief experience coaching American Andy Roddick in 2008. That relationship lasted only 18 months.
