Kings’ Drew Doughty, Jeff Carter and Dustin Penner take Cup home

A Canadian team hasn’t won the Stanley Cup since 1993, but that doesn’t mean Lord Stanley doesn’t get some serious mileage in the Great White North every summer.

Canadian players make up the vast majority of NHL rosters, and the Kings are no exception, with 15 players hailing from north of the border. Jarret Stoll took the Cup to eastern Saskatchewan last week, and Thursday it was defenseman Drew Doughty’s turn to spend some time with hockey’s holy grail in his childhood hometown of London, Ontario.

And the Cup looks right at home in Doughty’s old bedroom, which appears to be a shrine to everything related to Canadian hockey and the Kings. He’s got an old Kelly Hrudey jersey, a Wayne Gretzky poster and even a retro Kings phone. Hopefully, he had all that stuff years before he signed his big contract with the Kings.

After spending some quality time with the Cup at home, Doughty and teammate Jeff Carter then hitched a ride on top of a tactical response unit vehicle for a mini-Stanley Cup parade through the streets of London.

Further west, teammate Dustin Penner spent his day with the Stanley Cup in his hometown of Winkler, British Columbia. Penner started the day by having breakfast with his grandmother (and they ate crepes, not pancakes) before heading out to the golf course with the Cup in tow. He then signed autographs and posed for photos with fans.

But somebody needs to tell Penner the Stanley Cup Final ended more than two months ago -- he’s still sporting a pretty heavy playoff beard.
