Hope Solo arrested for allegedly striking sister, nephew at party

U.S. women’s national soccer team goalkeeper Hope Solo was arrested early Saturday morning following an alleged domestic violence incident in Kirkland, Wash.

Police told the Seattle Times that Solo was arrested for allegedly striking her sister and nephew after police arrived to investigate an assault and noise disturbance at the home of Solo’s sister.

Solo, 32, is being held without bail on two counts of fourth-degree domestic violence assault. She was booked into South King County Jail under Hope Amelia Stevens. Solo is scheduled to appear in court June 23.

Kirkland police Lt. Mike Murray told the Seattle Times that a party was going on at the house when police arrived and that it “was an out-of-control situation.†He said Solo was arrested after police observed visible injuries to Solo’s sister and nephew.

Solo plays for Seattle Reign FC of the National Women’s Soccer League and is a decorated U.S. national team player. She was part of the U.S. women’s gold-medal Olympic teams in 2008 and 2012 and was a member of the U.S. squad that won the 2006 World Cup. In 2009, she was named U.S. Soccer female athlete of the year.

Solo also performed on the television reality show “Dancing With the Stars†in 2011.

Solo was involved in another reported domestic violence incident in November 2012 when Stevens was arrested for allegedly assaulting her. Stevens, then her boyfriend, was never charged and the two married a day after the charges were dropped.
