David Beckham isn’t really naming his MLS team Miami Vice, is he?

David Beckham knows what he’s doing.

This is a guy who has used his enormous popularity as a soccer player to become an international brand.

So the former Galaxy star should trust his every instinct as he starts a Major League Soccer expansion team in Miami sometime between now and 2020, right?

Uh, maybe not if his gut is telling him to name and fashion the team after a cheesy cop show from nearly three decades ago, remembered mainly for star Don Johnson’s brightly colored fashion statements and an unmistakably ‘80s soundtrack.

According to the Post’s unnamed sources, Miami Vice is one of three names Beckham has been pitching to city of Miami, Miami-Dade County and potential investors. The others? Miami Current and “an undisclosed name tied to a corporate sponsor.â€

Great options, huh? At least Miami Sound Machine appears to have not made the short list.

Luckily, the Post states, those three aren’t necessarily the only names Beckham’s group is considering. And the logo and uniform presented could change as well, although the team colors probably will not.

Yep, the aqua and soft pink are here to stay -- two of the colors Johnson and co-star Philip Michael Thomas liked wearing when they cruised South Beach on your TV screen (come on, admit it) all those years ago.

But, come on. Giving an MLS team a moniker like that would be like naming an NHL team after a children’s movie. Wait, that actually happened, didn’t it?

Well then. While we stress that nothing has actually been decided, folks in Miami might want to start getting used to hearing, “Ladies and gentlemen, YOUR Miami Vice!â€
