Car that Ronda Rousey once lived in goes up for auction on Ebay
It’s difficult to imagine Ronda Rousey, one of the most feared and celebrated fighters on the planet, was living out of her car less than a decade ago.
Before the flurry of submissions, commercial endorsements and movie deals, Rousey was just trying to get by as a young judoist with Olympic and mixed-martial arts aspirations. She realized her Olympic dream by qualifying and eventually winning bronze in judo at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, but an Olympic medal didn’t alleviate all her hardships.
At one point, the Riverside native was forced to live out of her 2005 Honda Accord as she saved money to rent an apartment.
Now, that car is up for sale.
Rousey’s family has put the car up for auction on Ebay. With five days and 11 hours left in the auction on Tuesday morning, the highest bid was for $12,600. The car “runs fine†and comes fully loaded with “many of Ronda’s personal belongings inside the car including medals, UFC programs from past events, patches, hats,†according to the Ebay item description. But it does need a new transmission, which is understandable since it has more than 156,000 miles on it.
Rousey’s family linked to YouTube videos of the reigning UFC bantamweight champion having some fun times in the car, so sellers know they’re getting the real deal.
Just don’t expect Rousey to personally hand off the keys. The auction explicitly states Rousey “will not be available at the time of pickup for of the vehicle.â€
Besides, Rousey (11-0) has more important things on her schedule than meeting with used car buyers. She is set to defend her title against Bethe Correia (9-0) at UFC 190 in Rio de Janeiro on Aug. 1.
