Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard, Pau Gasol win NBA Social Media Awards
The Lakers were well represented when the NBA announced the 2013 Social Media Awards on NBA TV on Wednesday night.
Dwight Howard, with Kobe Bryant, won the Snap Shot Award for the mock fight in front of Coach Mike D’Antoni.
Bryant also won The 140 Award for his tweet on Feb. 24 that read “Amnesty THAT,†after leading the Lakers with 38 points in a 103-99 win over the Dallas Mavericks.
Mavericks’ owner Mark Cuban had previously used Bryant as a possible amnesty target for the Lakers, in a hypothetical discussion on the league’s collective bargaining agreement -- the All-Star guard got the final word.
Bryant beat out LeBron James, Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and Steph Curry for “The Social MVP,†after becoming a strong Twitter presence (after years of resistance).
Pau Gasol was chosen for the Social Difference Award, for his work in the community.
I’m so humbled to have won the Social Difference Award at the #NBASMA!! Let’s continue to make a difference together! @nba @lakers — Pau Gasol (@paugasol) June 13, 2013
In total, the Lakers won four of the 12 awards given out Wednesday.
Other winners include DeAndre Jordan of the Clippers with the Social Slam Award after dunking on Brandon Knight of the Detroit Pistons, Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder for the Trendsetter Award with his colorful fashion choices, and the Miami Heat with The OMG Award for their version of the Harlem Shake.
