Dwight Howard jokes he’s going to shoot line drives from free throw line
Dwight Howard was inspired by Chandler Parsons’ line-drive buzzer-beating three-pointer that sent the Lakers-Rockets game into overtime on Wednesday.
So inspired that he joked that he wants to emulate Parsons’ form at the free throw line, where Howard has struggled this season, shooting 49.2%, his second lowest percentage in his nine seasons in the league.
“It was just like a straight line drive but it was all net,†Howard said. “I told the guys after the game, ‘Maybe I should shoot my free throws similar to the way he shot that because it was all net.’â€
Howard will most likely be seeing the free throw line often against the Lakers’ first-round playoff opponents, the San Antonio Spurs.
When the Lakers played San Antonio on Sunday, they started using the Hack-a-Howard strategy in the third quarter, sending him to the free throw line 11 times in the period. He made only four.
In the game, he was eight for 17 from the free throw line.
