Kent Bazemore out for remainder of season with torn foot tendon
Kent Bazemore suffered a foot injury Sunday in the Lakers’ 120-97 loss to the Clippers at Staples Center.
On Monday, the Lakers announced that Bazemore tore the peroneus longus tendon in his right foot.
The 6-foot-5 guard will undergo season-ending foot surgery to repair the tendon, after which a timetable for his return will be given.
Bazemore was acquired in a trade by the Lakers from the Golden State Warriors, in a February deal that sent Steve Blake north. Through 23 appearances with the Lakers, Bazemore has averaged 13.1 points and 3.1 assists, while shooting 45.1% from the field and 37.1% from three-point range.
The Lakers also brought in MarShon Brooks in the Blake deal, but the third-year guard has played a smaller part in Coach Mike D’Antoni’s rotation, averaging 7.0 points through 15 games.
With Steve Nash (back) and Jordan Farmar (groin) out recently, Bazemore has backed up starter Kendall Marshall, playing out of position at point guard.
Farmar said on Sunday that he’ll be available to play Tuesday when the Lakers host the Houston Rockets.
The Lakers can make Bazemore a restricted free agent this summer with a $1,115,243 qualifying offer.
