After returning home from the Lakers’ lengthy trip, Dwight Howard didn’t want to talk about his father’s comments to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution

“I really didn’t know what was said,†Howard said. “At this point, I don’t care to know.â€

Dwight Howard Sr. took exception to comments made by Kobe Bryant, suggesting the Lakers center should play through a shoulder injury.

“My dad is entitled to his own opinion,†Howard said.

On Monday, Bryant reiterated that his comments were taken out of context.

“I’ve never said that,†Bryant said. “The urgency is something that we’ve been trumping. We’ve been beating that drum since the beginning of the season when we started struggling and all that other stuff. It’s nothing.â€

Howard Sr. also faulted Coach Mike D’Antoni for not stepping in to quiet Bryant.

D’Antoni didn’t really address the comments other than to say he understood the sentiment behind them.

“That’s cool. He’s his father. He should come to his defense,†said D’Antoni. “There’s nothing wrong with that.â€

D’Antoni and Bryant had a similar thought on how much a coach can do when it comes to players.
