Tim Tebow still in the Jets’ quarterback mix ... at least for now

Tim Tebow actually may have a future with the New York Jets after all.

In a conference call with season-ticket holders Monday, new General Manager John Idzik was asked about the high-profile backup quarterback, who is still listed as No. 2 on the depth chart despite being leapfrogged by No. 3 Greg McElroy when starter Mark Sanchez was benched late in the season.

Idzik responded with a lot of words, two of which were “Tim†and none of which were “trade†or “cut.†That’s got to mean something, right?

As far as what all those words mean when put together as sentences ... well, see what you can make out of them.

“Tim, as you know, is currently on our roster,†Idzik said. “What we’re doing is we’re trying to increase competition at that position and at positions across the board. We’re going to let the competition play out, we’re going to see who we’re able to bring on board, and I think that’ll be healthy for all concerned, including Tim.â€

So there you have it. The Jets have been in talks with veteran quarterback David Garrard, and plan to keep Sanchez, who is guaranteed $8.25 million this season. McElroy and Matt Simms also are still around and someone from free agency or the draft may also end up in the mix, which apparently still includes Tebow.

At least for now. We think.
