Jay-Z reportedly looking to sell his share of Brooklyn Nets

Jay-Z appears ready to dive head first into his new role as sports agent, with Yahoo! Sports reporting the rapper/businessman is looking to divest his share of ownership with the Brooklyn Nets.

That move would free the cultural icon to pursue certification with the National Basketball Players Assn. as an agent. NBA rules state that no one with an ownership stake in a league team can be affiliated with a player representation company.

Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, owns less than 1% of the Nets but has been a high-profile figure as the team made its move from New Jersey to Brooklyn.

The hope appears to be that he will be certified in time for the NBA draft in June, although there’s no real timetable for the sale of his share, Yahoo! reports.

Last week, Jay-Z announced the formation of a new sports representation group, Roc Nation Sports, a partnership between his Roc Nation entertainment company and Creative Artists Agency.

At the same time, the group announced New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano as its first high-profile signee. Cano had previously been represented by super agent Scott Boras.
