NFL power rankings: Andy Reid and the Eagles tumble

The Atlanta Falcons remain the No. 1 team in the latest Times’ NFL power rankings, which makes sense when you consider they are the only undefeated team in the NFL.

As Lance Pugmire wrote about the Falcons, “The importance of avoiding penalties (just two Sunday) is big factor why they’re unbeaten at the midway point. Next test is at New Orleans.â€

The Chicago Bears retained the No. 2 spot, but last week’s No. 3 team, the New York Giants, fell to No. 7 after their loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. But Pugmire expects this to be a momentary blip. “Late fade to Steelers at home might’ve been residue of long week distracted by super storm Sandy. Should rebound at Bengals.â€

Rounding out the top 10: No. 3 Houston Texans, San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, the Giants, the New England Patriots, Baltimore Ravens and at No. 10, the Steelers.

The woeful Jacksonville Jaguars are still ranked last.

The big losers of the week were Coach Andy Reid and the Philadelphia Eagles, who dropped out of the top 20 after a 28-13 loss to the New Orleans Saints.
