Will Kevin Durant and the Thunder challenge for an NBA title?
Will Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder win the NBA title this season?
Well, based on their collective performance Sunday against the Denver Nuggets, Oklahoma City cannot be overlooked in this season’s title hunt.
Durant scored a career-high 51 points and Russell Westbrook added 40 points in the Thunder’s 124-118 overtime victory over the Nuggets. In addition, teammate Sege Ibaka posted his first career triple-double in the win as the Oklahoma teammates became the first trio in NBA history to record such a feat.
“It’s unreal, man,†Westbrook said. “Tonight was a nice, epic game.â€
Sure, the overtime period helped pad the numbers a little, but the game said a lot about how Oklahoma City has evolved from a group of talented youngsters headlined by Durant and Westbrook into one of the NBA’s best teams.
Only Miami has a better record than the Thunder, and there’s talk that this could be the year Oklahoma City makes its anticipated assault on the NBA title.
But what do you think? Are the Thunder ready to make a serious title run, or will San Antonio, Dallas (or maybe even the Lakers or Clippers) keep their title dreams on hold this season?
