Aaron Harang hit hard in Dodgers’ 8-7 loss to Padres

PEORIA, Ariz. – Aaron Harang was hit hard Friday in the Dodgers’ 8-7, walk-off defeat to the San Diego Padres at the Peoria Sports Complex.

In the first game of the Dodgers’ split-squad, split-site, day-night doubleheader, Harang was charged with five runs (four earned), six hits and two walks in four innings.

“I felt when I got out of the stretch, I was rushing a little bit too much,� Harang said. “I wasn’t getting ahead and letting myself expand the strike zone. I was staying too much off the plate and having to work back over because I was falling behind in the count.�

In his next bullpen session, Harang said he would work on his timing when pitching out of the stretch.

Harang departed from the game with the Dodgers trailing, 5-1. He was replaced by Shawn Tolleson, who was struck in his throwing elbow by a comebacker by Padres reliever Anthony Bass.

“It should be fine,� Tolleson said.

There were no plans for Tolleson to undergo an MRI or X-ray exam.

The Dodgers’ reserves scored five runs in the eighth inning, which started with an infield hit by 2012 first-round pick Corey Seager.

Seager, 18, played the final three innings at shortstop.

The Dodgers pulled ahead, 7-5, in the eight inning. However, reliever Fabio Castro gave up three runs to the Padres in the bottom of the ninth inning, the last of them on a single by Travis Jankowski.
