Letters: Obama and Putin
Re “Obama scratches Putin off itinerary,†Aug. 8
Sometimes, the Obama administration doesn’t provide background information on its decision-making effectively and soon enough. With Edward Snowden and Vladimir Putin, it first seemed that the Russian leader had successfully used the leaker to make President Obama look foolish and out-played.
But in Thursday’s paper, we read a fuller history of our administration’s intelligent, moderate and useful meeting agenda that Putin and his government have stubbornly rejected.
It’s now clear that the administration’s decision to cancel the summit in Moscow with Putin is based on a history far broader and more critical than Snowden.
