Sarah Palin supporters across the country were quick to offer their own tips for the campaign in the weeks following her ascension to the John McCain presidential ticket. Among the words of wisdom offered: look to American history—and to God.

Rosemary Frankian, a self-described “ California Republican,†wrote the governor on Sept. 17, 2008, dismissive of critics’ complaints of Palin’s lack of experience.

She suggested Palin make use of a rejoinder that Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower used when he was running for president in 1952, countering skeptics who said he had no qualifications other than his military experience.

“He said, ‘I may now know all there is to know about Economics. I may not know all there is to know about fiscal responsibility. I may not know all there is to know about foreign affairs, BUT as your President I will have the power to hire as advisors the people that do know,’†Frankian wrote.

“Please use his quotation,†she added.

Another supporter, Joel Crouch of Lebanon, Ohio, urged Palin to find inspiration not from history, but from religion.
