Letters: Two weeks of therapy for Filner won’t do it
Re “Politicians take to the couch,†Opinion, Aug. 1
Meghan Daum makes an important point: Two weeks of psychotherapy treatment for San Diego’s embattled mayor, Bob Filner, will barely begin to scratch the surface of behavioral patterns that have been in force for decades.
Even if Filer had multi-hour daily sessions for two weeks (unlikely), his initial resistance to being forced into treatment, combined with an ulterior motive (protect his career) means that much of the time would be taken up dealing with those issues and not his behavior toward women.
As a psychologist practicing psychotherapy for more than 35 years, my opinion is that what he requires is more like two years, not two weeks.
