Re “Voters still back Brown’s tax hike proposal,†USC Dornsife / Times Poll, May 30
Let’s see: A majority of prospective voters in California (59%) are in favor of higher taxes for high-wage earners, but a considerable percentage feel that the bureaucrats will find a way to squander the additional revenue. So for these people, higher taxes are essentially punitive.
Anyone who believes that California’s considerable budget problems are going to be solved by targeting the state’s wealthiest taxpayers, who are already paying one of the highest state income tax rates in the country, is delusional.
