Teacher says he lost 37 pounds eating McDonald’s three times a day

An Iowa schoolteacher says he lost 37 pounds by eating nothing but McDonald’s for 90 days.

Take that, Morgan Spurlock!

John Cisna and his students at Colo-Nesco School District decided to challenge Spurlock’s Oscar-nominated documentary “Super Size Me†about the dangers of eating fast food. Cisna and his students made their own documentary, which came to a very different conclusion: If you choose carefully, the Golden Arches could be a great way to whittle your waist.

Now, before you decide to run out and buy some Big Macs, you need to hear about the details of Cisna’s diet, which he outlined to TV station KCCI in a story that is ricocheting around the Internet (most likely because we are all already bored with the celery and carrot sticks we believe will help us stick to our new year’s resolutions.)

He limited himself to 2,000 calories a day, and tried to stick to the recommended dietary allowances for carbs, protein and fat.

Here’s what an average day looked like: oatmeal, egg whites and 1% milk for breakfast, and a salad for lunch. At dinner, he let loose a bit, enjoying Big Macs, and Quarter Pounders. He indulged in dessert, too, enjoying sundaes and ice cream cones.

He exercised every day as well, walking 45 minutes a day.

By Day 90, Cisna said he was down 37 pounds.

We tried to reach Cisna for comment Monday morning, but his school was closed for the day because of the weather. He told KCCI that his experiment helped students take away a valuable lesson about personal responsibility: “We all have choices. It’s our choices that make us fat not McDonald’s.â€

If you are intrigued by Cisna’s experiment, be sure to read the KCCI piece which further explores Cisna’s project, and also includes details about how it all affected his cholesterol.
