It’s a Monty Python reunion.

Surviving members of the comedy troupe will reunite for a stage show. Terry Jones confirmed it with the BBC.

Mention Monty Python and people start spouting punch lines. This is a troupe with a long history and wide reach. Jones, Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle and Michael Palin really started something when they brought “Monty Python’s Flying Circus†to British television in 1969. There have been stage shows, films, albums and more.

The troupe has affected comedy for generations -- becoming so ubiquitous that “Pythonesque†is an adjective in the Oxford dictionary.

The five surviving members of the troupe -- Cleese, Gilliam, Idle, Jones and Palin -- are planning another stage show. And it’s a prospect that has some uneasy. The Telegraph calls them the Beatles of comedy but says they’re overhyped. Some fans are wondering if they can live up to the legend.

This reunion wasn’t in the works as recently as August. Cleese told the Los Angeles Times’ Susan King: “It is too difficult geographically.â€

He said Palin was “forever traveling†and Gilliam raising money at film festivals or directing. “Jonesie is always doing the most extraordinary mixture of things,†and Idle “is very much based in L.A.â€

Somehow they managed to get it together. More details on the venture to come.
