SACRAMENTO -- Gov. Jerry Brown delivered his State of the State address to a joint session of the Legislature today. The event got underway at 9 a.m.

Brown addressed the budget surplus and the importance of preserving it. The drought was also a major topic of his address: “We are not out of the woods, and we are certainly not out of the drought.â€

The speech gave Brown an opportunity to lay out his vision for the state as the economy rebounds but California grapples with natural and man-made calamities, including the drought and mounting pension liabilities for teachers and other government workers.
