FBI search of Calderon office rocks California Capitol

SACRAMENTO -- As federal agents searched lawmakers’ offices on Tuesday, Sen. Lou Correa expressed concern that the probe would taint the entire Legislature.

“When you have this kind of event, it can raise questions,†said Correa (D-Santa Ana).

Indeed, questions are swirling in the Capitol after hours of searches.

Agents visited the offices of Sen. Ron Calderon (D-Montebello) and the Latino Caucus, then departed after dark with multiple boxes and plastic cases.

A spokeswoman for the FBI declined to discuss details of the search, but sources told the Los Angeles Times that it was linked to a broader corruption investigation in Los Angeles County.

An attorney for Calderon, Mark Geragos, said his client did not do anything wrong.

“The only one so far who has done anything improper is the government,†he said.
