The Long Beach Police Department on Sunday identified a suspect who was involved in the officer-involved shooting that occurred outside a home in the affluent Belmont Heights neighborhood.

Greg Treadway, 49, of Long Beach was shot and wounded Saturday when he pointed a handgun at a police officer, according to a police statement.

Treadway was taken by fire paramedics to a nearby hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

The shooting occurred shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday in the 200 block of Park Avenue, where officers responded to a call of an armed man violating a restraining order, police said.

The first officer who arrived was approached by someone who said the suspect was coming down the driveway armed with a handgun, according to the statement:

“The suspect pointed the handgun at the officer. When the suspect failed to comply with the officer’s commands, an officer-involved shooting occurred.â€

Authorities later alleged that Treadway broke into a garage, where he retrieved the handgun, and then made his way to the front of the house, where his ex-girlfriend was standing and where he confronted police officers.

According to the Los Angeles County sheriff’s inmate locator, a man of the same age, with the same name, was arrested in an unknown crime Sept. 17 by Long Beach police. The man was released from County Jail on Sept. 19, two days before the officer-involved shooting.

A Long Beach Police spokesperson could not be reached for comment Sunday night.

Authorities said in the statement that they plan to book Treadway on suspicion of attempted murder, assault against a police officer with a firearm, burglary and violation of a restraining order.

Additionally, the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office will conduct an independent investigation of the shooting, as it does with all officer-involved shootings that result in injury or death.
