Al Michaels gets court date in DUI arrest
Sportscaster Al Michaels is scheduled to appear in court June 26 in connection with his arrest in Santa Monica on a DUI allegation.
The voice of many of NBC’s biggest sports coverage, Michaels was pulled over Friday night after allegedly making an illegal U-turn in front of police.
Santa Monica police Sgt. Richard Lewis told USA Today: “He makes an illegal U-turn in a business district. ... Two motor officers see that. They’re staged in a gas station lot. They see the illegal U-turn, and they go after him.â€
The officers were staged near a DUI checkpoint, according to police.
“He was evaluated for suspicion of DUI, brought to the station for a Breathalyzer test, and it came out 0.08%, which was at the legal limit, so he was released on a citation at about 3 or 4 in the morning,†Santa Monica police Sgt. William Heric told City News Service. “He was cooperative and polite the whole time.â€
Greg Hughes, a spokesman for NBC Sports, told Associated Press that the network had been “in contact with Michaels.†Hughes declined to elaborate.
Michaels was ordered to appear L.A. Municipal Court at 8:30 a.m. June 26.
