Blaze at Anaheim recycling center causes power outage
Orange County firefighters on Sunday battled a three-alarm blaze at a recycling center in Anaheim.
The call was originally reported as a possible dumpster fire, but firefighters found a dangerous situation involving recyclable materials — such as plastics and cardboard — in an open yard in an industrial neighborhood in the 1100 block of North Anaheim Boulevard.
Also on fire were vehicles belonging to the business and a utility pole, said Maria Sabol, a spokeswoman for Anaheim Fire & Rescue.
About 75 firefighters were involved in the effort. A firefighter and a police officer were treated for smoke inhalation.
About 26 homes were without power because of the incident.
The blaze took about 90 minutes to control, but firefighters were continuing to monitor the situation out of concern that recycling materials could reignite.
