Winning numbers for estimated $425-million Powerball jackpot
The winning numbers in Wednesday night’s Powerball drawing are:
5, 25, 30, 58, 59 and the Powerball is 32.
California lottery officials said shortly after the drawing that there was no jackpot winner in the state — it is not known yet if anyone around the nation had won — but that nine tickets were sold in California with five of six numbers matching.
If there’s an overall jackpot winner — or winners — out there, they stand to rake in an estimated $425-million jackpot with $244.7-million in cash value, according to the Powerball website.
It’s unclear what the final jackpot tally was, but $425 million would rank as the third-highest total ever for Powerball.
The record was set in May when an 84-year-old Florida woman claimed a $590.5-million jackpot. And in November 2012, two winning tickets split $587 million.
California joined the game in April. Since then, state lottery spokesman Alex Traverso said, huge jackpots have become more common.
“This is sort of the reason we joined —- because of the potential for the jackpot to grow,†Traverso said. “Everyone’s working themselves up into a frenzy again.â€
He said that there were some $15 million in Powerball sales in California on Wednesday including $3 million in the last hour tickets could be purchased.
Derrick and Jacqueline Shannon purchased tickets in Los Angeles on Wednesday afternoon and had their eyes on the big payout.
“So I can take care of my grandkids ... and retire my wife,†Derrick Shannon said.
Jacqueline Shannon does not play the lottery often, but said she’s tempted “when it gets big like this.â€
“Gotta be in it to win it,†she said.
