Authorities were searching for a suspect who shot and wounded two people Tuesday morning in an alley near Santa Monica College, police said.

A suspect walked up to two men standing in the 1500 block of Michigan Avenue and opened fire about 8:15 a.m., a Santa Monica police spokesman told reporters about an hour later. The man then ran to a vehicle.

The victims were taken to an area hospital with multiple gunshot wounds, the spokesman said. Their conditions were unknown.

Information about a suspect or vehicle description was not immediately available.

Law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation said the incident had no connection with Friday’s rampage that left five victims and the gunman dead at the college and surrounding neighborhood.

The sources said investigators were trying to determine if Tuesday’s incident was tied to another shooting Sunday, when a cyclist was wounded on Yorkshire Avenue.

A member of the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School Board told The Times that Sunday’s victim, a man in his late 20s, was riding his bicycle when a car pulled up and someone inside fired three shots.
