Train service on portions of the Blue and Expo lines was suspended Sunday night after a power failure, and workers are expected to be doing repairs into the night.

The affected areas run from the 7th Street Metro Station to the Grand Station on the Blue Line, and from the 7th Street Station to the 23rd Street Station on the Expo Line, said Metro spokesman Paul Gonzales.

He said the power went out just before 5 p.m. when a train’s pantograph -- the arm connecting it to overhead wires -- somehow damaged the wire system.

He said buses are being used to carry passengers to working stations.

He said he was not sure how many passengers might be affected, but added: “This is the time of night when we have the fewest passengers.â€

He said he hoped that one of the lines might be open by 10 or 11 p.m.

“It may take us to the wee hours of the morning,†he said of the repairs.
