A new round of rain and snow barreled into Northern California on Sunday, with more wet weather forecast later in the week.

The National Weather Service warns of heavy snow in the Sierra that can make driving conditions difficult. Snow levels will be around 6,500 feet.

Rain totals are expected to be one to two inches in the Sacramento area and up to four inches in Redding.

“But much heavier amounts as you head north,†said Craig Shoemaker, an NWS meteorologist, said Friday. “We are expecting quite a bit of rain with this system coming up.â€

Several storm systems are anticipated soon, Shoemaker said. The heaviest precipitation is projected to be Sunday afternoon and evening.

“It could be a pretty strong system,†Shoemaker said.
