Search-and-rescue workers find body of missing hiker
Investigators have confirmed that a body found in the Angeles National Forest on Saturday was that of a 63-year-old hiker who had been missing since Thursday.
Search-and-rescue workers found John Richard King’s body at the bottom of Hermit Falls around noon, according to officials from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Relatives later identified the body as King’s.
It appeared King slipped and fell about 40 feet into the water, sheriff’s officials said in a statement. There were no signs of foul play, the statement added, and detectives believe the death was accidental.
King left his La Puente home Thursday to go hiking at Chantry Flats in Sierra Madre and did not return, officials said.
In a statement released Friday, officials said King was an avid hiker and that his family was “very concerned for his well-being.â€
