Man killed, his wife and son hospitalized in Winnetka crash
A man was killed and four others hospitalized early Thursday morning in a three-car crash in Winnetka, authorities said.
Los Angeles police said a man driving with his wife and 6-year-old son died at the hospital after he was hit when he pulled in front of oncoming traffic in the 19000 block of Roscoe Boulevard.
The man did an illegal U-turn about 1:30 a.m. in front of oncoming traffic or pulled in front of the cars while turning onto Roscoe from a parking lot, said Lt. Debra Brownsten.
A car in the middle swerved to try to avoid him, striking a car in the No. 1 lane. The vehicle then hit the man’s car.
The man was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead about 4 a.m., Brownsten said. His wife and son both suffered serious injuries.
The driver of the vehicle in the middle lane was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the vehicle in the No. 1 lane suffered minor injuries.
Police were continuing to investigate the crash. The identity of the deceased driver has not been released.
