Some 49ers fans try to steal pieces of Candlestick Park, police say
As the San Francisco 49ers finished their last regular-season game ever at Candlestick Park on Monday night with a win over Atlanta, some fans tried to take pieces of the storied grounds home with them.
San Francisco police reported that some at the game tried to steal placards delineating sections and at least one person was caught trying to take away two seats from the park.
There were more than 70,000 in attendance, not including dignitaries and people who tailgated, said San Francisco Police Sgt. Danielle Newman. In all, there were easily more than 100,000 people who participated in some form in the event Monday night.
There were 81 ejections, seven citations and 30 arrests, the majority of which were for being intoxicated in public. Given the size of the crowd, the number of incidents “are relatively low.†Newman said.
There were a few fights, but “relatively on the small scale,†Newman added.
