Detectives seek gunman suspected of 2010 slaying in Baldwin Park

Authorities Monday night were seeking the public’s help in finding a man suspected of firing a handgun into a crowd and killing a 34-year-old father in Baldwin Park more than two years ago.
Johnny Mata, 32, allegedly opened fire on the group in the 13000 block of Francisquito Avenue, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
Mata fired multiple rounds, striking David De Anda in the torso, according to the department. De Anda died as he was being taken to a hospital.
[Upated 9:45 p.m.:Mata was mistakenly released last month from County Jail, which the Sheriff’s Department blamed in part on understaffing.]
De Anda was a certified welder who was studying auto mechanics. He is survived by a 14-year-old stepdaughter, 8-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son, authorities said.
Detectives have scheduled a news conference Tuesday to discuss the case. The event will be held at 11 a.m. at the department’s Homicide Bureau at 5747 Rickenbacker Road in Commerce.
