Hugo Schwyzer, a controversial gender studies professor who provoked a storm of protest after inviting porn actors to his class, has resigned his position at Pasadena City College, officials said Wednesday.

The college had started an investigation after Schwyzer admitted on his website to having sexual relationships with several students in recent years.

That investigation has now ended, officials said in a statement.

“Pasadena City College has accepted the resignation of Dr. Hugo Schwyzer effective Oct. 8, 2013,†the statement said.

“This brings to conclusion all matters relating to Dr. Schwyzer’s employment at PCC,†the statement continued. “The investigation being conducted under the supervision of outside counsel will not proceed any further. Dr. Schwyzer expresses his appreciation and thanks to his students and colleagues at PCC.â€

Schwyzer posted the statement on his website and announced that he would make no further statements. He could not be reached for comment.

In September, Schwyzer announced that he was suffering from mental illness and would not return to the teaching post he had held since 1993, instead transitioning into “disability retirement.â€

College officials would not comment on his disability claim.

Schwyzer is an author and prolific blogger, writing for such sites as the Atlantic and Jezebel. He is a self-described “male feminist†and gained notoriety for his Navigating Pornography class and inviting adult film actor James Deen to conduct a lecture.

He was arrested last month on charges of driving under the influence after an accident near San Juan Bautista that injured a young woman.
