A Boyle Heights man charged with murdering his brother and a family friend is scheduled to be arraigned in court Monday.

Authorities said that Israel Lopez, 25, was allegedly engaged in an “ongoing dispute†with his brother when he walked into his bedroom last year and opened fire, striking 29-year-old Gustavo Lopez several times and killing him.

Israel Lopez then turned the gun on Rafael Aguilar-Rodriguez, 22, who was visiting the home in the 3300 block of Hunter Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

When police arrived at the house, Israel Lopez was taken into custody without incident and detectives believe they recovered the weapon used in the killings.

Prosecutors charged Israel Lopez with the crimes in November of last year.
