During the 1970s it played the role of “The Brady Bunch†house, and its exterior was instantly recognizable to millions of television viewers.

But this week, the Studio City ranch home was part of a real-life drama when its owner confronted would-be burglars who had snuck in and begun ransacking the property, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

It happened on Wednesday night around 10:30 p.m., when prowlers at first tried to pry open some windows on the Dilling Street residence before shattering the glass of a sliding door. Once inside the home, they began rifling through a den area in search of valuables.

After that, they moved upstairs, according to police.

The homeowner, described as a woman in her 70s, was awakened by the noise and turned on the lights.

That was apparently enough to send the burglars running, although they left behind some evidence, according to police.

The homeowner, who was unharmed, called 911.

The five-bedroom home — which the show’s creator believed sitcom patriarch Mike Brady, an architect, would have chosen to live in — remains a tourist hot spot, despite efforts by the owners to mask the exterior.
