Suspect arrested in hit-and-run killing of 11-year-old Upland boy
A suspect is in custody in the hit-and-run killing of an 11-year-old boy in Upland on Thursday morning, police said.
Jason Fehr, 25, from Rancho Cucamonga, will be booked on felony hit-and-run charges at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, according to a police statement. Other charges may follow pending investigation.
The boy, identified by family members as Isaiah Shelton-Dobine, was walking to Cabrillo Elementary School around 8 a.m. when he was hit by a car at the intersection of Arrow Highway and Benson Avenue. He was transferred to San Antonio Community Hospital where he died of his injuries, according to a police statement.
“It’s a tragic situation,†said Sid Robinson, consultant for the Upland Unified School District. “We want to reach out to the family and express our thoughts, and to all the students that will be impacted by this.â€
Robinson said Shelton-Dobine was a sixth grader.
Police said the driver did not stop. He was driving a white Jeep Cherokee, similar to a 2008 model.
