Man’s body found in fire-charred tent behind house in Riverside

Firefighters discovered the body of a man in the charred ruins of a small tent where he had been living on a residential property in Riverside.

The fire ignited Tuesday in the makeshift living area at the rear of the property in the 6200 block of Stover Avenue around 4:07 p.m. Riverside firefighters found the body after the blaze was extinguished, according to police.

The man had been living in the tent for about a year, according to authorities.

Robbery and homicide detectives, along with arson investigators, were examining the scene to determine the cause of the fire. Authorities did not release the name of the man pending a positive identification and notification of his next of kin.
