Autopsy pending for man’s body buried by wife in backyard grave
The San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner is expected to perform an autopsy on the body of a man authorities believe was buried in his backyard by his wife.
The man died several weeks ago, and his body was found in a shallow grave in the backyard of the family home in the 1600 block of Navajo Road, the sheriff’s department said.
The man’s wife, a 59-year-old Apple Valley woman, told authorities she was too poor to “give him a proper burial.â€
The agency said there was no sign of trauma to the body. Authorities did not release the names of the woman and her husband.
“The distraught female said the man died at home and she did not have the resources to give him a proper burial,†sheriff’s officials said in a statement.
Deputies responded to the home Wednesday afternoon to conduct a welfare check on the man and discovered the homemade grave.
