Bob Hope Airport spokesman Victor Gill said security had been increased “and that’s really all I can say about it until more is known.â€
“We are aware of [the Boston Marathon explosions] and our police department has increased security until the nature of those events is known,†he said.
In Los Angeles County, the sheriff’s department plans to increase patrols to “create a more visible presence where people congregate, such as government buildings, shopping centers, athletic events, and public transit,†Sheriff Lee Baca said in a statement.
There was no immediate explanation of the cause of the explosions in Boston near the marathon’s finish line. Boston police had reportedly identified other explosive devices and detonated one of them in a controlled explosion.
