Lunch at Gusto; coffee for charity; Huckleberry + KCRW
Gusto makes lunch: Chef Vic Casanova, inspired by what he refers to as “free-range Italian,†debuts his lunch menu. Items include red wine-braised baby octopus, figs with whipped sheep’s milk ricotta and saba; crostino with duck liver; various house-made pizzas and pastas; and toasted coconut gelato pie, chocolate fonduta and crepes for dessert. On Thursday, it’s teaming up with KCRW 89.9 FM and “Good Food†host Evan Kleiman in support of the station’s annual Good Food Pie Contest. Proceeds will benefit the KCRW contest. Chef-owner Zoe Nathan is preparing heirloom tomato crostatas with Drake Family Farms goat cheese and fresh arugula, free-range fried chicken with sweet corn succotash and old-fashioned peach pie with Sweet Rose Creamery vanilla ice cream. $30 per person. Coffee for charity: In honor of its 6th anniversary, coffee shop Caffe Luxxe is donating 6% of its retail sales at all caffes to the Santa Monica-Malibu Education Foundation (SMMEF.org) in support of public schools. The fundraising will continue until Sunday.
