Droid drinks: ‘Star Wars’ R2-D2 fridge delivers cold beer on wheels
If you’ve always wanted a “Star Wars†R2-D2 astromech droid of your own, this may be your chance.
Haier Asia, a company in Japan, is developing a life-size R2-D2 for consumers. But instead of putting out fires or repairing starships, this R2-D2 delivers cold beer.
While the “Star Wars†theme song played, a representative from Haier Asia demonstrated the R2-D2 refrigerator at a recent presentation. You can watch a clip in the video above, courtesy of ITMedia.
The fridge is remote-control operated, powered by a rechargeable battery and glides on wheels.
The center panel opens to reveal two shelves, capable of holding six drinks at a time.
There’s no word on pricing or whether the droid fridge will be available outside of Japan. According to CNet.com, it will be released in Japan next year.
