Michael Voltaggio’s Ink.Sack sandwich shop to open at LAX this week
Michael Voltaggio has been frequenting LAX lately, not necessarily because of global travel but because the chef-owner of Melrose Avenue restaurant Ink (and “Top Chef†champ) is expected to open his sandwich shop Ink.Sack within days at the renovated Tom Bradley International Terminal.
The upgraded terminal, part of a $2-billion phase in the airport’s modernization plan to install new technology, gates and more than 60 shops and eateries there, celebrated its grand opening last month.
Planned by the end of the year is the debut of 31 new dining options (most only accessible after passing security), including Ink.Sack, Border Grill from Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken and Suzanne Goin and Caroline Styne’s Larder at Tavern. The 150,000-square-foot great hall will include a mezzanine lounge with views and a dining terrace.
Also slated to open are Umami Burger, LA Mill Coffee, Vanilla Bake Shop, Short Cake bakery, 800 Degrees Pizza, Chaya, Luckyfish and Patrossian Caviar & Champagne Bar. Eighteen of the 31 concepts are new to airports and 17 are local L.A. brands.
Ink.Sack at LAX, which is the second sandwich shop location, is slated to open by the end of the week.
