Food events: Ludo Lefebvre’s ambitious dinner series; 100 dinner parties for L.A. Kitchen; Taste of the NFL
Somewhere between Easter and Labor Day, we blinked, and Halloween candy started showing up on grocery store shelves. But before we officially enter the holiday season — Wait — what? how? — here’s a look at some upcoming food events worth noting. Because enjoying a six-course meal at Trois Mec seems like a much better plan than starting that holiday gift list.
2 Chefs, a Dialogue with Food by Ludo Lefebvre
Ludo Lefebvre, the French chef behind Trois Mec, Petite Trois and Trois Familia (with Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo), is celebrating 20 years in Los Angeles with a special series of dinners at Trois Mec in October. Joining him in the kitchen are some of the most lauded chefs in the world, each cooking three courses to accompany three courses by Lefebvre. The series starts with a dinner Oct. 10 with Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo, followed by a dinner Oct. 12 with Taku Sekine of Dersou in Paris, an Oct. 23 dinner with Daniel Humm of Eleven Madison Park in New York City, a dinner with Joshua Skenes of Saison in San Francisco on Oct. 25, a dinner on Oct. 26 with Jorge Vallejo of Quintonil in Mexico City, another with Sven Chartier and Sota Atsumi of Saturne & Clown in Paris on Oct. 29, and a final dinner with James Lowe of Lyles’ in London on Oct. 30. Each six-course dinner is priced at $150 per person, plus an 18% service charge and tax. Tickets go on sale today at 10 a.m. at www.troismec.com. 716 Highland Ave., Los Angeles.
L.A.’s night of 100 dinner parties
Nonprofit leader Robert Egger wants to throw 100 dinner parties to raise money for L.A. Kitchen, his organization that trains unemployed men and women for culinary jobs. More specifically, he’s encouraging people to throw their own parties. On Oct. 22, from 7 to 10 p.m., dinner parties will take place all over the city, with the proceeds benefiting L.A. Kitchen. Here’s how it works: You can volunteer to host a party for your friends, strangers, or a mixture of both. As a host, you’ll be expected to take care of the cost of dinner for eight people (including you). Tickets are $75 per person, all proceeds go to L.A. Kitchen, and you can purchase tickets on the L.A. Kitchen website. You can sign up to host a party there as well. If you don’t happen to know someone throwing one of the participating parties, you can buy a ticket online and L.A. Kitchen will match you with a dinner party in your preferred neighborhood. Guests will be assigned a dinner by Oct. 8. www.sharedplates.org.
Taste of NFL
The Los Angeles Rams have partnered with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank to host the Taste of NFL on Oct. 5 at the Universal Studios Globe Theatre.
