Taco Bell waffle taco heading to 100 more restaurants

The Taco Bell waffle taco is one of the newest hybrids from the “Live Mas†fast food giant. Beginning Thursday, 100 stores in Fresno, Omaha, Neb., and Chattanooga, Tenn., will begin selling the taco.

The Irvine-based company first began testing the waffle taco at 800 outlets in 10 states, including locations in Southern California, in May. A first bite from L.A. Times reporter Anh Do at a Santa Ana location described the taco as “mushy†meets “rubbery.â€

The taco features a waffle taco shell stuffed with a breakfast sausage patty and scrambled eggs. Hmm, waffles can be mushy. Breakfast sausage can be rubbery, and scrambled eggs are typically soft. Maybe the introduction of a couple of crushed Nacho or Cool Ranch Doritos taco shells could help with texture.

The taco sparked excitement on Twitter, with mentions often accompanied by the hashtag #itsdelicious.

Taco Bell has in recent months been pushing to compete with McDonald’s and other chains that have successfully capitalized on the fast-food morning market. The chain also recently introduced a breakfast crunch wrap and a yogurt topped with fruit at some locations.

The company had the social media world buzzing after it teased to the flavor of its new #_DLT, otherwise known as the Doritos Loco Taco. Rumors on Twitter and Facebook indicate the new flavor may be Doritos Flamas, but we’ll know for sure Aug. 22.
