Battle of the Burgers 2013: 3 days to vote; will it be the Gabster?
Cast your vote for your favorite entry in our third annual Los Angeles Times Battle of the Burgers. Your precious democracy is at stake!
Well, that might be a little overstated. But Pasadena media are abuzz about a local kid who has entered the contest, and you know that’s going to get out a lot of those Queen City votes.
Gabriella Pontrelli, a fifth-grader at Holy Family School in South Pasadena, as part of a homework assignment wrote up her idea for a burger dedicated to her favorite restaurant – the Dog Haus (it’s a mutual love thing: The restaurant already has a cheeseburger on its menu named after her – The Gabster, introduced on March 21 -- national Absolutely Incredible Kid Day).
Now the local Pasadena Independent has written up her burger entry with the plea to its readers to help the local 11-year-old “take a bite†out of the Los Angeles Times’ Battle of the Burgers competition – “Vote for ‘The Gabster.’ â€
Pontrelli’s entry consists of “¼ pound 100% natural black angus beef, avocado, bacon, cheddar cheese, ranch dressing and fried onions served on grilled Hawaiian rolls.†And there’s a picture of her biting into one.
Tough to vote against a cute kid (or a cheeseburger with onion rings and ranch), but if you’ve got a hometown burger hero of your own, you owe it to yourself to make your voice heard. Vote early and vote often at our Battle of the Burgers Facebook page! Polls close June 10.
