Ralph Lauren unveils retro-inspired closing ceremony uniforms for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games

Ralph Lauren, the longtime official outfitter of the U.S. Olympic team, took the wraps off Team USA’s 2018 closing ceremony uniforms on Wednesday, 100 days out from the start of the Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

The made-in-America parade uniforms, modeled on a “Today†show segment by Olympic athletes Gus Kenworthy, Jamie Anderson, Maia Shibutani and Alex Shibutani, consist of a white puffer jacket layered over a vintage-ski-inspired red, white and blue block-stripe sweater and paired with navy-blue, double-fleece, track-pant-inspired trousers with a red side stripe.

Rounding out the look are brown suede mountaineering boots with red laces, blue wool ski hats and gloves with wintry intarsia-knit snowflake patterns in red and white and, knotted at the neck, a bandanna printed with retro-looking symbols of American pride, including the U.S. flag, a spread-winged eagle, a scattering of stars and striped shields along with the interlocking Olympic rings.

As per usual, Olympic patches and badges, “Team USA†branding and the U.S. flag are sprinkled liberally throughout the uniform, and the Ralph Lauren label’s polo pony logo appears on the left breast of the down-filled, water-repellant jackets.

Pieces from the Ralph Lauren Team USA collection will be available in December at select Ralph Lauren and Polo Ralph Lauren retail stores as well as at ralphlauren.com and teamusashop.com.

The 2018 Winter Olympic Games, which are set to kick off on Feb. 9, mark the sixth time Ralph Lauren has been the official outfitter of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic teams. The label has not yet revealed what Team USA will be wearing for the opening ceremony festivities, but we’ll be interested to see how Lauren and company follow up the bitterly divisive, still-memorable and exceedingly star-spangled opening ceremony sweaters from the last Winter Games, in Sochi, Russia.
